The Crisis of Credit Visualized - Part 1

The goal of giving form to a complex situation like the credit crisis is to quickly supply the essence of the situation to those unfamiliar and uninitiated. This project was completed as part of the thesis work of a graduate student named Jonathan Jarvis at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California.

This is an amazing piece of work that brings some clarity to the current financial crisis. The one piece Jonathan misses, which is crucial, is the regulatory framework in the US which allowed this craziness to happen. Everywhere else in the world, this amount of leverage was strictly illegal. Right at the end of the Clinton second term, legislation was passed which made this legal and completely unregulated. What is even more amazing, the architects of this global fiasco are now on the economic team of Obama's administration. For more details on the historical context, click this link to read more.
