How Sony Or Microsoft Could Use Subscription To Win Video Games | TechCrunch

How Sony Or Microsoft Could Use Subscription To Win Video Games | TechCrunch:

Pretty much every business competes on four basic vectors: meaningful features, distribution, marketing stories and value. Your widget does what others don’t, your widget can reach customers that others cannot, your widget is important to customers in a way that others aren’t or your widget is cheaper than everyone else’s. It’s always the same from whiskey to office furniture, video services to cars. Great businesses dominate on one or more vectors whereas struggling businesses don’t.

Apple Watch and Continuous Computing - Stratechery by Ben Thompson

Apple Watch and Continuous Computing - Stratechery by Ben Thompson:

Ultimately, the Apple Watch has exceeded my quite high expectations. The complications and notifications fit into all the slivers of my life the iPhone has not, and the criticism I’ve levied at Siri has been primarily fueled by the appreciation of just how powerful it is to have a virtual assistant on my wrist instead of my pocket.

The Mind of Marc Andreessen - The New Yorker

The Mind of Marc Andreessen - The New Yorker:

A great V.C. keeps his ears pricked for a disturbing story with the elements of a fairy tale. This tale begins in another age (which happens to be the future), and features a lowborn hero who knows a secret from his hardscrabble experience. The hero encounters royalty (the V.C.s) who test him, and he harnesses magic (technology) to prevail. The tale ends in heaping treasure chests for all, borne home on the unicorn’s back.

Tesla’s $3,000 Powerwall Will Let Households Run Entirely On Solar Energy | TechCrunch

If we can make solar power and affordable option in places like Victoria (in the Pacific Northwest), then it can work anywhere.  In combination with this battery tech, it might be possible to get off the carbon monster and stop destroying the world.

A teenage TED speaker’s mom on how she encourages her sons to innovate | TED Blog:

I can’t make schools change, no matter how much I advocate and complain. So I gave up on that and said, “You know what? I’m not going to change that. I send them to school, they do whatever they’re going to do, and it’s not very challenging and it doesn’t promote creativity. And then when they get out of school, it’s time for parents to shine.”

Creep - Vintage Postmodern Jukebox Radiohead Cover ft. Haley Reinhart - YouTube:

One of the highlights of our recent European tour was Haley Reinhart's masterful interpretation of our vintage arrangement of Radiohead's "Creep" (originally performed on this channel by the amazing Karen Marie). I enjoyed it so much that I brought Haley into a studio in Zurich on our day off to record it. If you haven't heard Haley sing this before, get ready for a truly remarkable performance. Oh yeah- and this was the very first take.

Working on the Enterprise is pretty much a non-stop party as far as I'm concerned. (Probably because the only parts I pay attention to are the Kirk/Spock moments, Scotty when he's drinking, Chekov when he's macking on his girlfriend and doing no work, and Uhura singing and just HAVING A GOOF in general.)

How Harper Turned Canada into a Rogue State | The Tyee

How Harper Turned Canada into a Rogue State | The Tyee

Having bet the country on expensive oil and lost, Stephen Harper is now doubling down and betting it on an election-winning war. It's an enormous gamble, and he must know how easily it could blow up in his face. He must therefore also know how bad the economy really is, and how it will worsen by October. Sooner than face certain defeat, he prefers to gamble Canadian lives and honour on a far-away war.
